Xiaomi’s smart driving R&D team to reach 1,500 by year-end, says CEO
Lei Jun, chief executive officer of Xiaomi, said smart driving is the main battlefield for electric vehicles, and Xiaomi aims to be among the top of the industry by 2024.
Xiaomi founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Lei Jun continues to warm up for the SU7, the company’s first electric vehicle (EV) model that will be officially unveiled in just two days.
In his latest Weibo post today, Lei spoke about Xiaomi’s focus on smart driving features, re-emphasising that Xiaomi aims to become one of the strongest players in the space within the year.
“Intelligent driving, the main battlefield of intelligent electric vehicles,” Lei Jun wrote in his microblog.
Xiaomi has invested heavily in the field of intelligent driving, and its research and development team now has more than 1,000 people and is expected to exceed 1,500 by the end of the year, he said.
Xiaomi’s smart driving R&D team is equipped with special test vehicles and has accumulated more than 10 million kilometres of road testing, Lei said.
“Xiaomi’s smart driving is probably the fastest and most intensive in the industry. Our goal is to enter the first tier of the industry by 2024,” Lei Jun wrote.
Lei Jun said Xiaomi has a few more advances in smart driving, which he will present at a conference in two days.
