The Song PLUS DM-i, a key model for BYD in the compact SUV market, has been equipped with the latest DM5.0 plug-in hybrid system and is making a strong comeback. We’ve tested the 2025 Song PLUS DM-i 160KM Flagship PLUS to see how it performs.

Exterior Design

There are no significant changes in appearance of 2025 Song PLUS DM-i, only the front face has been enhanced with chrome trim, adding more layers to the front end.

The vehicle’s dimensions remain unchanged from the previous model. The three-dimensional lines on the lower part of the doors elevate the visual center of the car’s side, enhancing the sense of three-dimensionality.

The “BYD” taillight replaces the “BUILD YOUR DREAMS” slogan, making the rear of the car more recognizable.

Interior

The new interior color scheme combines sandstone beige and dark blue, complemented by large areas of leather, giving a sense of luxury. The central control screen is a 12.8-inch rotating screen, while the 160KM version has a 15.6-inch screen.

The new Song PLUS maintains a high degree of uniformity with the old model in terms of exterior design. The new chrome trim on the front face adds more layers, and the interior’s new color scheme, along with the large leather wrapping, looks very high-end. The 12.8-inch central control screen is more than enough to clearly display any information, with smooth operation and good resolution. If you don’t have a special need for the pure electric range of the 160KM version, you don’t need to be influenced by this configuration.

Space Performance

For a compact SUV, the Song PLUS performs well in terms of passenger space, providing a comfortable ride for passengers up to 180cm tall in both the front and rear seats. In terms of storage space, the main storage areas are arranged in the front row, with the armrest box and the storage slot under the central control being particularly outstanding, leaving plenty of space after placing two bottles of water. The overall performance can meet the daily needs of an ordinary family.

Trunk Space

The trunk is quite neat, and the maximum depth can reach 1900mm when the second row of seats is folded down, and the flatness is also good.

The trunk space of the Song PLUS is good. It can accommodate three sizes of suitcases without folding down the second row of seats, although it is a bit crowded. The loading capacity of the trunk is quite good. Three sizes of suitcases can be fully placed without folding down the second row of seats, but there is basically no extra space. After folding down the second row of seats, the flatness of the trunk is good, and it can barely be used as a double bed, making it easier to place some large items.

Driving Experience

The driving quality of the Song PLUS is impressive, with a good overall feel of the chassis, precise steering, and a handle that fits the performance of a family SUV. The power output is crisp and decisive, even making the accelerator pedal feel a bit “sensitive.”

In terms of driving experience, the vehicle’s power response is very foot-following, without any dragging feeling. The cooperation between the engine and the electric motor is very tacit, and the driving smoothness is well guaranteed.

A large part of the smooth driving is due to the vehicle’s good suppression of engine vibration. Except for the faint noise from the front of the car when the engine suddenly intervenes, most of the time you can’t even tell that the car has an engine.

In addition, the suspension tuning also adds a lot of points to the driving quality. When going through long wave sections, the car does not produce extra shaking, and when going through bumpy roads and speed bumps, the suspension can also soften the impact very well.
