Porsche Macan EV powered by CATL batteries, report says
Porsche has begun accepting reservations for the Macan EV in China, with the official launch set for April 25, the first day of the Beijing auto show.
The brief report doesn’t mention any further details about the pack, including which of CATL’s battery packs it uses.
CATL launched the Qilin Battery on June 23, 2022, claiming a 13 percent increase in power compared to the 4680 battery with the same chemistry and pack size.
The Qilin Battery is CATL’s innovation in battery pack construction, not battery chemistry. This means that this pack structure can be used for ternary batteries as well as lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries.
On August 16, 2023, CATL unveiled the Shenxing Battery, a battery based on LFP chemistry that supports ultra-fast charging.
Vehicles equipped with the Shenxing Battery can get 400 kilometers of range on a 10-minute charge and is the world’s first LFP battery to support 4C charging, CATL said at the August launch.
CATL is the world’s largest power battery maker, with a 37.4 percent share in the January-November period, the only one to exceed 30 percent, according to South Korean market researcher SNE Research.
Porsche officially unveiled the all-electric Macan EV in Singapore yesterday, its second EV after the Taycan and first electric SUV.
The car is equipped with a 100 kWh battery pack with a charging power of up to 270 kW, capable of charging from 10 percent to 80 percent in 21 minutes.
Porsche announced yesterday that customers in China can start paying a refundable RMB 9,110 to reserve the model, thus gaining benefits including priority delivery.
