Nio exec explains how its factories use humanoid robots
At the end of February, Nio (NYSE: NIO) was testing the use of humanoid robots on its factory production lines. Now, an executive at the electric vehicle (EV) maker has shared more details about the effort.
Based on its thinking and understanding of humanoid robots, NIO has already assembled a humanoid robot “squad” for 2023, said Peng Yi, the EV maker’s head of humanoid robot intelligence engineering.
Peng Yi revealed the information at the 2024 China Humanoid Robot Ecology Conference in Shanghai earlier this month and explained how Neo will use humanoid robots in its factories.
On 22 February, Hong Kong-listed humanoid robot maker UBTech Robotics (HKG: 9880) shared a video on Weibo showing its Walker S robot working on an assembly line at its Nio factory.
The video shows the Walker S participating in quality inspection of door locks, seat belts, headlight covers, and being able to affix vehicle logos during a training session, using its real-time image capture and transmission capabilities.
Traditional industrial automation in the automotive industry is struggling to meet the growing demand for smart automotive manufacturing
However, humanoid robots, which are integrated tools with human form and intelligence, have greater potential to replace and automate hazardous operations in automotive manufacturing.
