Geely Launches Galaxy E5: A Compact Electric SUV with Aegis Short Blade Battery for Global Markets

It is the first model to be powered by Geely’s Aegis Short Blade Battery, a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry-based power battery cell that was unveiled on June 27th. The battery boasts an impressive energy density of 192 Wh/kg and a cycle life of up to 3,500 cycles, equating to a potential 1 million kilometers of driving with minimal impact on range.

Geely Galaxy E5 is not only a technological marvel but also a performance powerhouse. With a motor that delivers 160 kW of peak power and 320 Nm of peak torque, the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds. It comes in five variants, all sharing the same powertrain. The two less expensive variants are equipped with a 49.52 kWh battery pack, offering a CLTC range of 440 km, while the other three variants feature a 60.22 kWh battery pack, extending the range to 530 kilometers.

Designed with a global audience in mind, Geely Galaxy E5 will be available in both right-hand drive and left-hand drive configurations, making it accessible to a wide range of international markets. The compact SUV has dimensions of 4,615 mm in length, 1,901 mm in width, 1,670 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm, providing ample space and comfort for passengers.

The launch of Geely Galaxy E5 is part of Geely’s broader strategy to target the mainstream plug-in hybrid and pure electric vehicle markets with its new product array, Galaxy, which was introduced on February 23rd, 2023. By 2025, Geely plans to launch a total of seven models in the Galaxy range, including four plug-in hybrid models in the L-series and three pure electric models in the E-series.

The Galaxy lineup has already seen significant success, with 16,704 vehicles sold in July, marking a 66.08% increase year-on-year and a 4.56% increase from June. Geely Galaxy E5 is expected to contribute to this growth, positioning itself as a strong competitor in the electric vehicle market, particularly against models like BYD’s Yuan Plus, which offers CLTC range options of 430km and 510km.
