A signing ceremony for a cooperation agreement between Chinese automaker Chery and Spain’s Ebro Electric Vehicles (Ebro-EV) was held in Spain’s Barcelona Free Trade Zone on 19 April. Under the agreement, Chery and Ebro will set up a joint venture to produce Chery Omoda electric models and Ebro-branded cars in Barcelona.


    Chinese Ambassador to Spain Yao Jing, Spanish Prime Minister Sánchez, Catalan President Aragones, Spanish Minister of Industry and Tourism Ereu, Anhui Vice Governor Shan Xiangqian, and Acting Consul General Hu Aimin of the Consulate General in Barcelona attended the above activities.
  
   The Chinese and Western guests who participated in the ceremony positively evaluated the significance of this co-operation project in deepening the mutually beneficial co-operation between China and the West in the field of automotive, and believed that this co-operation will help the revitalisation of the Spanish automotive industry and the green transformation of economic development.

   Foreign media reports said that after months of negotiations, Spain's Ebro-EV Automotive reached an agreement with Chery on 16th, the agreement marks the first time that the Chinese automaker has entered Europe (set up a factory), the project is expected to start in the third quarter of 2024.
