BYD, a leading name in the new energy vehicle market, has recently revealed spy shots of its highly anticipated third-generation Tang SUV, signaling a significant upgrade from its predecessors. The new model is expected to make its debut in the first half of 2025, showcasing a range of innovative features and design enhancements.

With exterior spy shots indicating a split headlight design and a refreshed chrome strip, the Tang is set to impress with its sleek new look. The vehicle will also incorporate hidden door handles and new low-drag wheels, contributing to its aerodynamic profile. A split spoiler at the rear, reminiscent of the BYD Song L, and a high-mounted brake light are among the distinctive design elements that set the Tang apart.

Size is a notable aspect of the new Tang, with expectations that it will be considerably larger than the second-generation model, potentially exceeding five meters in length. Current dimensions of the Tang EV are 4900mm in length, 1950mm in width, and 1725mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2820mm. The PHEV DM version has slightly smaller dimensions but shares the same wheelbase.

Inside, the third-generation Tang promises to deliver a spacious and comfortable interior, accommodating six or seven passengers across three rows of seats. Early interior spy shots reveal a standard BYD layout featuring a large, likely rotatable central infotainment screen and an LCD instrument panel. The second-row seats, still in the development phase, indicate the presence of two independent seats that will slide on rails.

While specific details on the Tang’s specifications are yet to be confirmed, the vehicle is expected to harness BYD’s advanced DM 5.0 technology for its plug-in hybrid version, pairing a 115kW 1.5T engine with a 200kW electric motor, offering an all-electric range of approximately 125 km. The EV version will utilize the e-platform 3.0 Evo, which is known for its ultra-fast charging capabilities and a 12-in-1 electric drive system.

Suspension will be a highlight of the Tang’s performance, with front MacPherson and rear five-link setups complemented by BYD’s DiSus-C suspension system. As BYD continues to integrate advanced technology into its higher-end models, the inclusion of a Lidar unit in the Tang is anticipated, promising enhanced intelligent driving capabilities.

The third-generation BYD Tang is poised to redefine the SUV segment with its blend of luxury, performance, and cutting-edge technology, setting the stage for a new era in electric and hybrid vehicle offerings.
