BYD to start producing electric cars in Indonesia in 2026
BYD plans to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a factory in Indonesia in July this year, a senior local official said.
BYD will begin commercial production of electric vehicles (EVs) in Indonesia in 2026, a senior Southeast Asian country minister said. Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Panjaitan posted on his Instagram account yesterday that BYD plans to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its factory in Indonesia in July this year.
Panjaitan said that BYD has shown great enthusiasm for investing in Indonesia and aims to have the manufacturing plant start commercial production in Indonesia in early 2026.
According to a Reuters report on January 18, Indonesia’s Chief Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto said in January this year that BYD planned to invest US$1.3 billion to build a factory with a production capacity of 150,000 vehicles. The report quoted BYD Indonesia President Zhao Ying as saying that BYD is expected to build the facilities as planned later this year and will establish a local sales network of up to 50 dealers by the end of 2024.
