BYD surpasses Tesla in pure electric quarterly sales for the first time ever
BYD sold 526,409 passenger pure electric vehicles in the fourth quarter, 8.65 per cent more than Tesla’s global deliveries of 484,507. With Tesla’s fourth-quarter delivery announcement, BYD is officially the world’s largest seller of pure electric vehicles (BEVs). Tesla delivered 484,507 vehicles in the fourth quarter and 1,808,581 vehicles for all of 2023, according to data released earlier today. By comparison, BYD sold 526,409 passenger-only electric vehicles in the fourth quarter, according to data released yesterday by Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker BYD. That’s 8.65 per cent higher than Tesla’s fourth-quarter deliveries.
In addition to pure electric vehicles, BYD sold 416,242 plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles in the fourth quarter.
Including pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, BYD sold 942,651 passenger new energy vehicles in the fourth quarter, 94.56 per cent more than Tesla’s deliveries.
Including 2,128 commercial new energy vehicles, BYD’s fourth-quarter new energy vehicle sales were 944,779 units.
