BYD Song Pro DM-i: Interior Reveal and Upcoming Launch
The second-generation BYD Song Pro DM-i is scheduled to enter the Chinese market in the fourth quarter of 2024, with an estimated price range of $15,400 to $21,000 USD. This new offering is poised to continue the Song Pro’s legacy as one of China’s top-selling SUVs, blending style, performance, and eco-friendliness.
BYD has teased the market with official images revealing the interior of its much-anticipated second-generation Song Pro DM-i. This plug-in hybrid SUV is set to make its mark in the Chinese market, boasting a refreshed look and BYD’s latest fifth-generation DM powertrain.
Since its debut in the Chinese market in 2019, the Song Pro has evolved from offering both internal combustion engine (ICE) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variants to focusing solely on the plug-in hybrid version. The current model has been a sales juggernaut, with 158,345 units sold from January to August of this year alone. The new generation aims to capitalize on this success with a host of upgrades.
Interior Design and Features
The interior of the Song Pro DM-i aligns with BYD’s Dynasty series design philosophy, featuring a large floating screen and a compact LCD instrument cluster on the center console. A distinctive four-spoke D-shaped steering wheel, adorned with the Song logo, adds a touch of elegance. The center tunnel sports a retractable crystal gear shifter, flanked by physical controls, cup holders, and wireless charging pads for added convenience. A spacious compartment under the tunnel provides extra storage, while the second row offers a center headrest, armrest, independent air vents, and charging ports. A sizable panoramic roof enhances the sense of space within the cabin, all enveloped in a sophisticated black-beige color scheme.
Exterior and Powertrain
Exterior-wise, the Song Pro DM-i adopts BYD’s signature Dragon Face design, highlighted by slim elongated headlamps, a dynamic bumper, and a chrome-plated front element. Its dimensions are slightly adjusted to 4735/1860/1710 mm with a wheelbase of 2712 mm, making it 3 mm shorter than its predecessor.
Under the hood, the vehicle integrates BYD’s fifth-generation DM system, consisting of a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine producing 99 hp and a synchronous permanent magnet electric motor with 215 hp. Two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery options from FinDreams, BYD’s subsidiary, are available: one with a 13 kWh capacity and the other with an 18.3 kWh capacity, offering a pure electric range of 60-91 km.
