On September 4th, BYD Auto officially announced the exterior design of its upcoming compact SUV, the Sealion 05 DM-i.

From the released images, the Sealion 05 DM-i adopts a family design language similar to the Destroyer 05, showcasing a strong visual impact and sportiness. The front of the car features a large boundaryless grille with a chrome horizontal strip design that creates a “boundaryless” effect, complemented by droplet-shaped dot matrix and staggered trim, making the overall design highly recognizable. The “BYD” logo is embedded in the center of the grille, further highlighting the brand identity.

For the headlight cluster, the Sealion 05 DM-i uses full LED lighting, with a slim and sharp design. The inverted “L” shaped daytime running lights are particularly eye-catching, and both the low and high beam lights come with lenses to enhance illumination and driving safety. Additionally, the car uses a black trim to connect the headlight cluster with the grille, further enhancing the overall sense of the front.

On the side of the body, the Sealion 05 DM-i features a floating roof design, combined with blackened B, C, and D pillars, creating a strong sporty atmosphere. The waistline is sharp and rounded, and the door handles adopt a traditional design, which is more practical and acceptable than hidden door handles. The new car has dimensions of 4710mm in length, 1880mm in width, and 1720mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2712mm, comparable to models like the Song Pro DM-i, ensuring a spacious and comfortable interior.

In terms of tail design, the Sealion 05 DM-i is also full of highlights. The new car features a through-type taillight group, with blackened elements inside the taillights to enhance the overall fashion sense. The rear spoiler integrates the high-mounted brake light, and below is a combination of a large area of black trim + silver trim, further enhancing the sense of hierarchy of the tail. The rear skirt adopts a crossover design, with the license plate frame located on the tailgate, making the overall shape both sporty and practical.

In terms of power, the Sealion 05 DM-i is equipped with BYD’s fifth-generation DM technology, consisting of a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine and an electric motor. The engine’s maximum power is 74kW, and the electric motor’s maximum power is 120kW. Some models may also offer a motor version with a maximum power of 160kW to meet the needs of different consumers. The new car is equipped with a Fudi lithium iron phosphate blade battery, which is expected to have excellent endurance and power performance.

As a new member of BYD’s Ocean Network series, the launch of the Sealion 05 DM-i will undoubtedly further enrich the brand’s product matrix and provide consumers with more diversified choices.
