BYD says it will step up R&D investment, engineers to top 90,000
To date, BYD has more than 90,000 R&D engineers worldwide and has applied for more than 48,000 patents, according to an announcement from BYD.
As China’s largest new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDF) has a large research and development team.
BYD said yesterday it will continue to strengthen its investment in R&D and cultivate new productivity through continuous technological innovation.
The company released an action plan to improve the quality of the company and returns to shareholders in yesterday’s bourse announcement, stating that it would practise long-termism and strengthen its main business.
To date, BYD has more than 90,000 R&D engineers, has applied for more than 48,000 patents worldwide, and has been granted more than 30,000 patents, the announcement said.
The announcement did not mention BYD’s current total number of employees. BYD’s ESG report released in March 2023 showed that as of the end of 2022, BYD had a total of 570,060 employees.
In the automotive sector, BYD’s business covers automotive technology as well as upstream core components, including batteries, motors and electronic control devices, the announcement noted.
BYD also said it aims to take a leading position in the premium market by launching several premium models in 2024.
