SHENZHEN, China – BYD Auto, a leading new energy vehicle manufacturer, has sparked excitement in the automotive industry with a teaser video showcasing its highly anticipated hybrid SUV, the Song L DM-i. The release suggests that the new model is on the horizon, ready to make its mark in the electric vehicle (EV) segment.

Lu Tian, General Manager of BYD’s Dynasty lineup sales division, took to Weibo to share the video, offering a glimpse into the design and capabilities of the Song L DM-i. This new addition to BYD’s family of vehicles is expected to lead the trend in mid-size SUVs, boasting a design that diverges from the Song L BEV, presenting a more traditional SUV silhouette.

Efficiency Meets Aesthetics

Song L DM-i is poised to integrate BYD’s advanced DM 5.0 hybrid system, which was first introduced in the Qin L DM-i hybrid sedan. This system is renowned for its efficiency, promising lower fuel consumption and an extended combined driving range, aligning with BYD’s commitment to sustainable mobility.

Expanding the Electric Vehicle Portfolio

On December 15, 2023, BYD launched the Song L BEV, a shooting brake style SUV that has since garnered attention for its innovative design. Following the successful launch of the Denza N7, the Song L BEV further solidified BYD’s presence in the EV market. Now, the Song L DM-i is set to expand BYD’s offerings, appealing to consumers seeking the benefits of hybrid technology.

BYD’s fifth-generation DM (Dual Mode) technology, unveiled on May 28, has already made waves with its improved fuel efficiency.

The Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i, the first models to feature this technology, have achieved a combined range of over 2,000 kilometers with a full fuel tank and battery charge.

Song L DM-i offers dimensions of 4,780 mm in length, 1,898 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,782 mm, according to regulatory filings. This positions it as a formidable competitor in the mid-size SUV category, with a powerful 1.5 L engine and two battery options of 18.316 kWh and 26.593 kWh to meet diverse consumer needs.

Record Sales Reflect Market Leadership

Reflecting on its sales performance, BYD reported a record 341,658 new energy vehicles sold in June, an impressive 35.02 percent increase year-on-year and a 2.97 percent rise from May. This robust growth underscores BYD’s leadership in the new energy vehicle sector.

As BYD continues to innovate and expand its lineup, BYD’s Song L DM-i is set to actively captivate the market by blending performance, efficiency, and style.
