New 2025 BYD Seal EV And BYD Seal 07 DM-i Lunched In August, 2024

BYD has introduced two cutting-edge models in its Seal series, leveraging the latest technology architecture. The 2025 Seal EV, featuring LiDAR for the first time in a BYD vehicle, enhances driver assistance capabilities. Alongside it, the Seal 07 DM-i was launched, broadening the sedan series’ options.

Zhang Zhuo, General Manager of Sales for BYD’s Ocean product line, announced that the Seal series will expand to include the Seal 05, Seal 06, Seal 07, Seal 08, and Seal 09 in the future. The current Seal series showcases the 2025 Seal EV, Seal 07 DM-i, Seal 06 DM-i, and the Seal DM-i Glory Edition.

BYD Seal EV

On May 10, BYD revealed the e-Platform 3.0 Evo and the Sealion 07 EV, an SUV built on this new platform. This upgraded architecture offers higher integration, improved powertrain, and charging performance compared to the previous e-Platform 3.0. The 2025 Sealion EV, based on the 800V high-voltage platform, provides faster charging and better energy efficiency than the previous 400V platform. The top-tier Seal EV models come equipped with LiDAR, marking a first for BYD.

The automotive industry is divided on the use of LiDAR, with companies like Tesla relying on visual solutions for their driver assistance systems. Xpeng, the first to implement LiDAR in a production vehicle, is now moving towards pure vision solutions for its P7+ sedan.

BYD’s 2025 Seal EV, equipped with LiDAR, features the in-house developed DiPilot 300 assisted driving system, enabling point-to-point autonomous driving on highways and urban roads. BYD highlighted this capability at the launch event, stating that the DiPilot 300 system can be activated on any urban road.

The 2025 Seal EV has dimensions of 4,800 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, 1,460 mm in height, and a 2,920 mm wheelbase. It offers both single-motor rear-wheel drive models, which accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, and a high-performance dual-motor four-wheel drive model that achieves the same acceleration in just 3.8 seconds. Powered by BYD’s blade battery with lithium iron phosphate chemistry, the entry-level variant has a 61.44 kWh pack capacity, delivering a CLTC range of 510 kilometers. The other three variants boast an 80.64 kWh pack capacity, offering a CLTC range of either 650 km or 600 km.

BYD Seal 07 DM-i

Initially launched in China on July 29, 2022, the BYD Seal quickly became a strong competitor to the Tesla Model 3. BYD further expanded the Seal series on September 6, 2023, with the hybrid Seal DM-i. The Seal 06 DM-i, launched on May 28 this year, incorporates the latest DM 5.0 technology, and BYD decided to keep the Seal EV name after receiving feedback from its community.

The Seal 07 DM-i, BYD’s first mid to large-size sedan with the fifth-generation DM technology, promises lower fuel consumption. The Seal 06 DM-i and Qin L DM-i are the first to feature this technology, offering a combined range of over 2,000 kilometers. The Seal 07 DM-i measures 4,980 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase.

The top-of-the-line hybrid sedan variant is powered by a 1.5T engine with 115 kW and a front electric motor with 200 kW, achieving 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 6.9 seconds. The other four variants, with a 1.5L engine producing 74 kW and a front electric motor with 160 kW, accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in either 8.0 or 8.5 seconds.

The Seal 07 DM-i is equipped with BYD’s blade batteries, with the base variant featuring a 10.08 kWh pack for a 70 km CLTC range. The other four variants have a 17.6 kWh pack, all offering a 125 km CLTC range. As standard, the Seal 07 DM-i includes the DiPilot driver assistance system, which provides L2 driver assistance.
